iPhone apps were a giant leap forward in how we use our mobile phones.  While smart phones were always meant to be more than just mobile phones it wasn’t until the iPhone came out that we really began using our phones for more than just email reading and talking.  Now we can track our daily caloric intake, get a map of the three miles we jogged this morning, visit our favorite websites powered by a 3G network – and about a few hundred thousand other things we can do via the app stores for iPhone and Android.  Video apps are also making a big showing and are proving to be very popular with consumers.  DIRECTV and Verizon both have free apps that allow users to browse programming and schedule their DVRs to record programs – all right from their iPhone or Android-powered phones.  Other apps let consumers use their phone as remote controls to watch programming on their computers or over their TV.  Androlib.com, a site to search for and get reviews of Android apps, lists 16 pages of TV apps that receive a rating of at least four out of five stars alone!
